One size does NOT fit all! Your journey at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ may not look like the plan below, andÌýthat’sÌýOK. These are some suggested activities to help you hit the ground running and finish strong as you grow in your ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Career Competencies. No matter what you plan to do after graduation (and even if youÌýhaven’tÌýformed that plan), Career Services can help!Ìý

FIRST YEAR

  • Check your ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ email EVERY »å²¹²â.Ìý

  • Use your HDX Today app to read ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Today AT LEAST 2-3 times/week Ìý

  • Follow ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Career Services on Ìý

  • Meet with your professors outside of class

  • Meet with Career Services toÌýexplore majors and career options

  • Get to know your advisor

  • Join a campusÌýorganization or start ; find more volunteer opportunities .

  • Meet with Career Services to explore internshipÌýoptionsÌý

  • Participate in an internship this summer (after your FR year) ÌýÌý

SOPHOMORE

  • Meet with Career Services to explore your chosen major and how it relates to careersÌý

  • VisitÌýFocus 2 Career to organize your interests, values, skills, and career readiness to help you choose a major and consider future occupations.

  • Participate inÌýCareer Term (January)Ìý

  • BuildÌý alumni connections through Career Term, HCAN, and FACT FridaysÌý

  • Visit the Study Abroad Office and/or the Study Abroad FairÌý

  • in the community; find more volunteer opportunities

  • Complete at least ONE Project by the end of this year!Ìý

  • This summer is the PERFECT time for an internship! Meet with us to dream and plan!

  • EVST, HESC, and SJSA students…you will need to complete an internship beforeÌýgraduationÌý

  • Meet with Rynnett Clark if interested in teaching as aÌýcareerÌý

  • Explore undergraduate research opportunities if considering medical school or graduateÌýschoolÌý

JUNIOR

  • Participate in an internship (perhaps your 2ndÌýor 3rd)

  • VisitÌýFocus 2 Career to organize your interests, values, skills, and career readiness to help you choose a major and consider future occupations.

  • IfÌýplanning to attend graduate school, meet with your advisor to develop a concrete planÌý

  • Continue building alumniÌýconnectionsÌý

  • Become a leader in one or more campus organizations

  • Explore graduateÌýprograms if interested in continuing your education after ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ

  • Join a professional association if graduate or professional school is in yourÌýfutureÌý

  • Regularly read the professional journals and news of your chosen fieldÌý

  • If a pre-med, do medical school interview preparation and work on personal statements with Pre-Med Advising Committee and your advisorÌý

  • PeruseÌýjob ads for your target profession(s) and notice what qualifications are needed and what keywords areÌýusedÌý

SENIOR

  • BeginÌýjob search and begin preparing your applicationÌýmaterials (let us help you!)

  • VisitÌýFocus 2 Career to organize your interests, values, skills, and career readiness to help you choose a major and consider occupations.

  • Update Resume (Do you need a CV?)Ìý

  • Practice writing a coverÌýletterÌý

  • Schedule a mock interviewÌý

  • Have Career Services review your application materials before you submitÌýthemÌý

  • Participate in a final internship or researchÌýopportunityÌý
