Learning goals for both majors and minors:
- Acquire knowledge of the theoretical basis for music as practiced in Western cultures, and聽 develop practical competency in sight singing, aural skills, and keyboard proficiency in order to聽 demonstrate their understanding of theoretical concepts.聽
- Acquire knowledge of the history of Western art music and the traditions practiced in other聽 global cultures, including an understanding of the evolution of specific genres, styles, and聽 musical philosophies.聽聽
- Develop advancing technical proficiency and musical self-awareness through practice and聽 performance experiences in private lessons and ensembles.聽
- Study, interpret, and perform music while synthesizing knowledge gained through their聽 lessons, ensembles, and coursework.聽
- Conduct basic research in music and to communicate ideas and information coherently in聽 both written and oral formats.
Learning goals for non-majors:
An understanding of and experience with music as either a performing art, an
academic discipline, a cultural expression, or a creative medium.
