Financing your study abroad experience.

Students at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ can use their federal and/or state financial aid for study abroad programs. Also, in some cases students may use ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ scholarships to fund their experience abroad. See the chart below to understand how financial aid and scholarships correspond to each program. As always, it's best to confirm your financial aid package with the Office of Financial Aid.

How grades are recorded

• The only programs in which your grades ARE factored into your GPA are Accademia dell'Arte, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ-in-Costa Rica, and ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ-in-Washington. Grades are NOT factored into your GPA for all other study abroad programs.
• For Independent/External Programs, grades do NOT appear on your transcript.
• Please note that studentsÌýCANNOTÌýreceive college credit for pass/fail classes taken abroad.
  
• If you wish to recieve credit towards your major, minor, or any learning domain you must get the "request for approval of transfer credit" sheet from the Registrar's Office and have your advisor and deparment chair to approve the courses. Otherwise, all courses will be counted as general credits towards graduation. This should be done before you leave to study abroad.

Internal Scholarships

1. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ-Murphy Foundation Study Abroad Scholarships for Language and Literature - Supports students whose course load abroad consists of at least 50% language and literature study. Applications will be emailed to those students qualified and approved for study abroad in March. Deadline: April 1, 2024
2. Oxford Program for Undergraduate Studies (OPUS) Scholarships - For students participating in the fall 2024 or spring 2025 semester. Instructions and applications will be sent out to all students approved for OPUS in March. Deadline: April 1, 2024.Ìý
3. Oxford Honours Programme Scholarships - Substantial scholarships for the two students accepted into the Oxford Honors Program (academic year at St. Peter's College). If additional scholarship application materials are required, the Office of International Programs will notify the two approved students.
4. Accademia dell'Arte Scholarship - Aids students participating in summer or semester programs in Arezzo, Italy, in the humanities, including theater, dance, and music. Applications will be emailed to those students qualified and approved for study abroad in March. Deadline: April 1, 2024
5. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ-in-Costa Rica, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ-in-Madrid,Ìý ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ-in-Tours, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ-in-Shanghai Scholarships - The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ-Murphy Foundation supports all students; no scholarship application required.Ìý

1. Boren Awards for International Study - For students who study abroad in areas of the world that are critical to the U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Typically, Boren Scholars study less commonly taught languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Swahili. Requires governmental services upon graduation. 3. The Critical Language Scholarship Program - CLS offers fully-funded summer language institutes for U.S. university students and is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. The Program expands dramatically the number of Americans studying and mastering critical foreign languages (including Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Punjabi, Turkish, Urdu, Arabic, Persian, Chinese, Japanese, and Russian). 4. Thomas J. Watson Fellowship - One year of independent study and travel abroad which enables students to explore a particular interest, test their aspriations and abilities, view their lives and American society in greater perspective, and develop a more informed sense of international concern.Ìý ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ is one of only 50 liberal arts colleges in the United states eligible to nominate candidates for the Watson Fellowship.    a. Annette Kade Scholarship – for students studying abroad through ISEP in Austria, France, Germany, Reunion Island, or Switzerland.
   
   b. ISEP Community Scholarship – for students who demonstrate need and are studying abroad through ISEP. Students who are statistically underrepresented in study abroad are encouraged to apply.
   
   c. ISEP Founders Fellowship – for students with demonstrated financial need from an ISEP member institution. Students must submit a creative project and personal statement related to language learning in the host culture.
