II. Special Business

• Decorum for when guest speakers come. Making an attack is a little inappropriate. We are trying to get the administration to open up for us, and that’s what Scott was trying to do. Everyone is an equal voice, just keep this in mind. You can respectfully disagree with people instead of shooting them down.
• Housing Report 2009-2010 “Back to the Future!” from Dean Wiltgen and John Omolo
• They want to develop a housing selection process that best meets the needs of ���ϲ����� and our students.
• Level price differential between apartments and traditional housing—In February, Board of Trustees will be passing the different fees and whatnot. ���ϲ����� Corner (Mills St Apartments) and the Village will cost more but each has increased amenities; students in apartments will still be responsible for utilities
• Challenges: 130 new beds—what do these options look like? MUST save 430 spaces for first year students. Fill apartment beds first and traditional hall beds last; Encourage seniors/juniors to select housing in apartment; How do we manage which rooms are saved and which will be open?
• Students will be able to see all available rooms when they select—instead of the old school electronic “preference” thing so you can actually see what you want. Applying for off-campus before on-campus spots (about 110-120 will probably live off campus) to reduce chance of being off-campus if that is your last choice; rules for single applicants to protect double rooms for roommate pairs. There may be a number of ways to adjust saving the 430 rooms.
• Possibly lifting GPA restrictions for apartments
• PROPOSED KEY DATES:
  -Feb 19—Change to class status
  -Feb 27—Draw numbers (according to classification, but randomly assigned)
  -March 2—Off Campus applications (special needs and regular request due)
  -March 20—Squatters claim rooms
  -March 24—Apartment Housing Selection
  -March 31—Traditional Housing Selection
• They are recommending that the Council on Res Life (and any other willing students) meet with John Omolo and Dean to discuss this issue. Student forums for feedback and question answering will take place.
• Bid point numbers based on GPA; lottery number based on number of students in your class, draw number for housing based on classification
• Off-campus kids will still have to reapply, even if they want to stay off-campus
• Apartments will still not be furnished. However, if they were furnished, there would be some advantages like summer living.
• You’ll need to have your top choices on hand.
• Let’s say there is someone who is not happy with their assignment—there will probably be a wait list for reassignment (for instance, at semester).
• More details will be sent out to the entire campus about the whole process soon.

III. Announcements and Constituent Concerns

• Apartment parking—Eco house and apartment kids are parking here and there—maybe look into getting parking passes
• Veggie chicken nuggets—why are they gone?
• Water on 1^st and 2^nd floor of Martin is acting up. 1^st floor bathrooms air conditioning problems—mold is arising. Drains are higher than the floors in some parts of the showers. Hall Council wants to know what happens to the historic funds—where does this money go to?
• Is there any way that the girls will not be in Martin during Governor’s School
• Chance received many replies in response to the Southwest Energy happenings and graduation at the WAC. He wants to start a petition since many students want to protest and voice their opinion on this company. He simply just wants to assure that students have a voice and that their opinions are presented clearly.
• Inaccuracies in minutes/notes? Here are the facts: Hundreds and millions of dollars are NOT being spent for the Village. That is more than our endowment contains. There is absolutely no link between Southwest Energy, the Village, and football. Identifying external donors is the main reason for delaying football. The portrayal of a desperate financial trouble of the college is definitely not the case. Can the administration have a formal conversation with students about all of this? Yes, possibly as long as there is an appropriate tone (recall last week’s meeting…). We’ll need to frame the conversation with honesty as well.

  -Dr. Barth has agreed to integrate the theme into this week’s Pericles Forum (Thursday)
  -Friday: Student Art Show! AND Open Mic Night (southern themed poetry, anything!)

• Formal!!! Great success. However, there was a discrepancy on the location… sorry. What happened was that they started booking at the Robinson Center, but the room’s floor was being redone. So we assumed they were relocating our formal to another room in the Robinson Center, when actually they relocated it in the State House Convention Center. Apologies.
  -Good news: we didn’t get kicked out this year! We’ll probably have it there again.
  -Not enough water or cheese dip. SoCo didn’t get funded for food, but they actually cancelled one of the movie nights from last semester to use for food.

• Volunteer Action Committee with Larnie Campbell
• Service Saturday, Feb 10-5 Raise Awareness for child with autism to help his parents buy him a service dog. Holler at Molly McGuire. Meet at the bell at 9:45 AM!
• Invisible Children meetings to help organize event. Wednesday 7:30 in the Burrow.

• STD/AIDS Screening at Health Services? “Plan Parenthood” has these, and it is located somewhere in Conway. But it would be nice to the on campus.
• Committee on Committees with Will Green
• Filing for Welcome Week Chair and Shirttails Serenade Committee Chair will Open TOMORROW. Applications will be at the Senate Wall and also electronically through Annie French. Filing closes next Wednesday!
• Planning informational meeting. More details to come.
• Senators and Committee Chairs need to have their binders ready a week before Spring Break for a smooth transitional meeting
• Executive Committee with BJ Fogleman
• Harkrider construction beginning now
• Jessica Sweatt, Senior Committee Chair, will probably come share about what is going on and what this committee does
• Mabee Center will most likely stay up through 2009-2010 (Spring 2010)
• How best to fill positions for students who are going to meet with Board of Trustees? It can’t simply be a voting process since that may partly be based on popularity… we’ll talk more about it.
• Expand Academic Policy for more students to be able to interact with Board of Trustees
