• All senators receive a free binder and a free folder to keep up with during this term to pass on to their successors. Please include any and all items/information that you think he/she will need! Print out all senate notes, agendas, etc… BJ wants to see these binders and folders at EVERY meeting.
• Constituent wants to have a Faculty Appreciation event more often? Goes to SACC!����������������������������������������������������������������������������������������������

III. Announcements and Constituent Concerns

• Increasing red zone out of VZ circle to make it easier to exit. Will Green says we tried to fix this before, but it goes to the city and was just plain complicated… It would cost the school, not the senate.
• Outdoor tables and chairs for Raney? We’ll check!
• More food and drink vending machines in Raney?
• More bike racks around campus?
• Splenda in the Burrow, please!
• Hina wants more variety in the vending machine in the Burrow (“too much Vitamin Water,” she says.)
• H-Alert: Weather warning text was delayed and people were concerned. In cases where electricity is down, it is inevitable for some systems to not be down. Other cases will enable a more timely warning. Sorry!
• People are wondering whether ���ϲ����� will have football or not. What is the progress on the decision? Mac wants a percentage range (for example: 60% yes, 40% no… etc). See Academic Policy report with Sam Bode below.
• Are we spending more money on sports and not dorms? Moving upper classmen off campus may create a barrier between upper and lower classmen.

  • Movie showing in Murphy House with Anthropology Club called Life and Debt on Thursday, April 10^th at 7:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, April 22^nd: Niger’s Ambassador to Canada to speak about issues facing women in her native Niger and the rest of West Africa at�� in Mills A. For more info, ask James!
• Social Committee with Sam Jackson
  • Tonight: Disney Themed Trivia Night at 8:30 p.m. in the Burrow! You should have been there.
  • Anis: Award-winning poet from Austin, TX coming Wednesday, April 9^th
  • JUNO showing Tuesday, April 15^th 8:30 in Burrow. What? Hold on. I’m on my burger phone.
  • T-shirts from the Dance-a-thon and the Campus Wide Relay on sale in the sunporch all week! $10 per shirt, or $16 for both! What a deal! Go on, team up if you have to.
• Volunteer Action Committee with Katie Pratt
  • Sand and Sorry documentary showing Monday, April 14^th at 9:00 p.m.
  • Filing for VAC positions will open next week!
  • For those who attended Voices of Darfur, please fill out and evaluation form and turn it into Katie Pratt’s ���ϲ����� Box # 3600!

  • Newspaper comes out next Friday, April 18^th!
  • Mug shots (only chance) for the yearbook will be taken tomorrow Wednesday, April 9^th from 11:00 a.m – 3:00 p.m. in the Burrow. If you don’t get your mug shot taken, either your OneCard photo or your FaceFinder photo will be used.
  • Media Committee applications’ deadline extended to April 15^th. Get them to Megan Wooley!
• Council on Residence Life with Bob Fureigh
  • Do residence halls want elections? Speak with your hall president. Bob tried to get them ballots, but they didn’t respond!
  • Filing for Galloway Senator is open AGAIN. Encourage Galloway girls to file because we need to hear their voice!
• Campus Kitty with Hina Mehta

  • Alumni Weekend: Art show and sale is Saturday, April 12th from��11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., and the Silent Auction is also Saturday from 11:00 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.

• Environmental Concerns Committee with Maggie McKinney
  • Friday, April 18^th: Heifer International Hundred Mile Meal with food grown and raised within a 100 miles of the site; there will also be a speaker! They will be carpooling from the Eco House at 6:00 p.m.; e-mail Maggie and let her know if you want to go! Student discounted price to go: $15!
  • Tuesday, April 22^nd: Earth Day at ���ϲ�����! “Green your life” seminar in Mills B at 7:00 p.m. including simple steps you can take as a college student to be more eco-happy. Give-aways: tote bags, fluorescent lights, and etc!
  • Tentative trash pick-up on campus on April, 25^th.
  • Saturday, April 26^th:^��Earth Day in LR 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Clinton Center Park; carpooling from Eco House and leaving at 10:00 a.m.
• Academic Policy with Samantha Bode
  • Library hours will be extended during finals! Not sure the exact hours, but they will indeed be extended (probably until 2:00 a.m.). Since faculty heard about Harvard’s library going 24-hours and many students got mono… ours is not going to be 24-hours.
  • Football and shirttails will be discussed at the next faculty meeting, coming up next Thursday.
  • Can Ultimate Frisbee be eligible for a PA credit? Sam will check it out.
  • The total impact of football report that they are compiling is still incomplete. Even if the majority of faculty and student population say no, the board still has the final decision and can endorse it.
    Word from the senate��president: “If we do happen to get football, please make friends with the football players and not degrade them or make them feel out of place. Welcome them just like you would any other ���ϲ����� student.”
  • New majors and new professors: pretty much every department is hiring new faculty members. Majors will be discussed later. Faculty expects to pick that up during fall meetings. Strengthening interdisciplinary studies will happen.
  • Are we focusing more on football than we are about our education? Maybe to the eyes of the students, but faculty really is paying attention to everything.
• Student and Academic Concerns Committee with Jayce Hafner and Samantha Bode
  • Meeting tomorrow!
• Finance Committee with Alex Graddy-Reed (about $13,000 in discretionary)
  • Budget orientation this past Monday did not go so well… people didn’t show up! If you are part of an organization and want money… talk with Alex! ASAP! (Residence halls are not considered Student Organizations… so we are not responsible for funding them.)
  • Young Democrats requested registration fees for state conference. APPROVED: $100!
  • Martin Hall requests money for Toga security ($800), Port-a-potties ($173), and SoCo’s equipment use fee ($50). APPROVED: $1,023.00!
    Martin also requested $400 to meet and greet and have t-shirts made for Alumni weekend as a Martin fundraiser, being coordinated with the Alumni Office. However, the request was withdrawn by Bob.
  • MISS office and MDC are co-sponsoring Niger’s Ambassador to Canada to speak at ���ϲ����� (see MDC report above). They are requesting $2,500 for her honorarium fee and travel costs. APPROVED: $2,500.00!��
• Communications Committee with Kristi Vo
  • Town Crier will try again this Friday.
  • Too many e-mails from the WAC. Nick volunteered to be the liaison to speak with Karl Lenser.

VI. Unfinished Business

• Shirttails committee needs to meet ASAP! The faculty meeting is coming up soon.

VII. New Business

• Appointments were made for the following committees in executive session: College Judicial Council (CJC), Peer Board, Traffic Appeals, and Academic Integrity. Names will not become official until the nominees accept the position.
• Amending the Bylaws: Nathan Jeffries believes there are holes in the ���ϲ����� Senate constitution, many things are not followed, and not everything is as cohesive as they could be. According to him, our basic rules begin with “break the rules, you get a letter; second time you get impeached.” According to Robert’s Rules of Order, there are more chances before you get impeached. He proposes adding Solidarity and Goodwill clauses, which fail tonight but will be picked back up at the next meeting with discussion of forming a Committee on Constitutional Revision, co-chaired by Jayce (the Presidential Assistant) and Kristi (the secretary).
