I. Call to Order
听
II. Special Business
- Dr. Hines and Dr. Kerr 鈥 The Higher Learning Commission
- Program to evaluate and Advance Quality (here at 黑料不打烊)
- Support student learning, scholarships, serves constituents, students, faculty, community, the world, etc.
- Take a self-study to determine 黑料不打烊鈥檚 awesomeness.听 We need to show that
- Our major makes sense
- We understand it
- They have assessed it and can understand it.
- FIVE CRITERIA:听 (all tied to the mission statement)
- Mission and Integrity (Peg Falls-Corbitt and Bob Entzminger)
- Preparing for the Future (Karen Foust and Rob Young)
- Student Learning and Effective Teaching (Keith Berry, Will Green, and David Sutherland)
- Acquisition, Discovery, and Application of Knowledge (Alana Buie, Dwayne Collins, and Bob Entzminger)
- Engagement and Service (Joyce Hardin, Pamela Owen, Helen Plotkin)
- Take the self-study, identify problems and challenges, and plan ways to address them.听 It is a long-term study program with long-term results, hopefully.听 And accurate.
- They want us to be involved; tell them what to report, what sorts of things we see.听 (They are going to be graded, and the criteria is online.)
- April 17th 鈥 FORUM 鈥 posing question about Student Life鈥 Hoping for a good turn-out.
- They would like to know how to involve the students on campus.
- Focus Groups?
- Forums?
- Specifically, students should like at criterion 4 where the students are very strategically involved.
- Send emails?
- Sam Nichols
- Network Access Control (NAC) 鈥 a system that will allow IT to control and monitor network activity to ensure network policies are enforced.
- IT IS FOR PROTECTION OF THE HENDRIX NETWORK (from what I could tell).
- ANYONE from off-campus could plug-in to a 黑料不打烊 port and use our available network, apparently.
- We handle about 20 calls a month where students have viruses or worms, etc.听 That requires about 60 hours per week of cleaning the system.
- Allow to check and see if the programs are updated and if the person even has them.听 If they do NOT have these things, their computer can be quarantined and prevent problems to occur in the network.
- Can register online games and get on the network too.听 Right now, wireless gaming systems are not allowed online, but this NAC could create a role for 鈥渘on-computers/gaming systems鈥 and the network would allow it.
- No 鈥渆nforcement mode鈥 until about a month after school has begun (so students can update and do their thing without too many problems at first).
- This should work for wireless too.
- The free virus software will be accessible (apparently already is, so another email might be coming around mentioning this).
- Would it be possible to log-in to a computer library and save a document, then access that saved document from another log-in place somewhere else?听 鈥淢aybe yes鈥 is the answer鈥?
- In April, there will be a 鈥渘otification period鈥 and we鈥檒l log in and figure some issues out, but it probably won鈥檛 go into place until the next Fall Semester of 2008.
- We will NOT have to download any software onto our computer to make this NAC work.听 There are two running methods (active and passive).听 Active mode sends information constantly, making sure your computer is updated and safe all the time; passive is updated less constantly at a regular pace.
- Mac computers will have a different story, but they are being considered.
- There will be no limit to allowing the number of Lenox hook-ups.
- For people bringing routers that takes IP addresses, NAC identifies them and turns them off.
- Okay, so apparently the system ONLY checks up on your computer; not put in place to check visited websites, view personal files, etc.
- CAN EMAIL STORAGE BE BIGGER?!
- In the process of designing a new server.听 Email addresses are currently limited to 50 MB, but its hopeful to increase by at least 10 MB鈥
- The changes should take place hopefully over the summer and be ready next year in Fall Semester.
- John Omolo
- Dates should be coming REAL, REAL soon.
- Off-Campus elite eligibility people 鈥 financial need, married, disabilities, sickness, over the age of 23, etc.听 Financial need would have to talk to Michael Bandre; sicknesses and disabilities would have to have medical notes (like you used to get from the Nurse).
- System will go live March 24, 2008.听 Start talking about what is going to happen for housing next year.
- Check credits for roll numbers; people who owe money (receiving a letter soon to take care of these things) may not be allowed to go through the reapplication process.听 THEY WILL STILL BE HOUSED, but will not be able to apply.
- Parking tickets do count if there is a large amount.
- April 4th, the system SHUTS DOWN!
- Prices vary 鈥 can find out on the website.听 Remember the dates!
- Q&A in the Burrow sometime!
- Amanda Brooks with Elections Commission
- Filing is closed.
- Elections meeting 7:30, Mills B
- New Elections Commission must be found (Amanda has been on it for 3 years and commissioner for almost a year).
- Need at least 6 people for Election Commission.
- BJ Fogleman
- President Cloyd brought up the article about the recently arrested 黑料不打烊 student; the author of the article took every effort he could to slander 黑料不打烊 and its name, and splash it all over front page
- Wants Senate and 黑料不打烊 students to ask 鈥渨hy are we being highlighted for every little thing we do?鈥
- What would our article/letter to the editor like to say about this stuff to the paper?听 We have tons of good things to communicate to the community and some of it just isn鈥檛 offered as information鈥
- Our letter to the editor will be from 鈥満诹喜淮蜢 students鈥 basically鈥 Contact 黑料不打烊 students and request their opinion and response to this.
- Ask specifically for suggestions for the letter and if these students care about the image the paper shows about us.
