Students Attend Film Symposium with ACS Peers

CONWAY, Ark. (April 15, 2014) 鈥 Ten 黑料不打烊 students recently participated in the 2nd Annual Rhodes-黑料不打烊 Film Studies Research Symposium at Rhodes College.听

Sponsored generously by the Associated Colleges of the South and organized by Dr. Rashna Richards (Associate Professor of English and Chair of Film Studies, Rhodes College) and Dr. Kristi McKim (Associate Professor of English and Chair of Film Studies, 黑料不打烊), the event enabled students from both schools to present their research to their peers and gain the valuable experience of participating in an academic conference.听

In addition to presenting papers, students and faculty engaged in numerous informal conversations over meals and movies, as these activities strengthen ties between Rhodes and 黑料不打烊 by encouraging cross-institutional participation and collaboration.

  • Rane Peerson 鈥14 (interdisciplinary studies major), "Adaptation and Adaptation: Discovering Coexistence between Traditional and Experimental Narrative Film Structure"
  • Adelia Shiffraw 鈥14 (English-film studies major), "Framing Blackness: Race, Representation and Serial Storytelling in The Wire"
  • Emily Smith 鈥14 (English-film studies major), "Landscape and Bodies in Vince Gilligan鈥檚 Breaking Bad"
  • Hayley Thomson 鈥15 (English-film studies major), "The Second Directors: How Simon and Garfunkel Established Directorial Ownership for Musicians in Coming-of-Age Films"
